Turning Foot Traffic into Future Customers: Capturing Data After Black Friday

The holiday season is a make-or-break time for retailers, and with Black Friday behind us, businesses now face a critical challenge: converting the unprecedented foot traffic from the shopping frenzy into long-term, loyal customers. For many retailers, the post-Black Friday lull can feel like a missed opportunity, where countless potential relationships remain untapped and customer engagement strategies fall short.

As Christmas approaches, the stakes are even higher. How can retailers ensure that their stores are not just a one-stop destination but a recurring choice for shoppers? The answer lies in the data you’ve already collected—or should have collected—during Black Friday. By effectively capturing and leveraging customer information, you can drive sales, foster loyalty, and ensure your business stays top-of-mind well into the new year.

Holiday-Themed Drip Campaign Workflow

Use the Drip Action to send a series of holiday-themed messages (email/SMS) to your customers, creating excitement, sharing deals, and encouraging repeat purchases.

The Drip Action is an essential feature for automating consistent communication with your customers. Whether you're nurturing leads or providing timely updates, the Drip Action allows you to schedule and deliver emails, texts, or other messages in a structured sequence over time. Here's everything you need to know about setting up and utilizing the Drip Action for your business.

What is the Drip Action?

The Drip Action automates sending messages at specific intervals or "drips" over a defined period. This is perfect for campaigns that require a steady flow of communication, such as onboarding sequences, lead nurturing, or promotional offers.

How Does It Work?

When the Drip Action is triggered within a workflow, coreWARE begins sending out messages based on the delay intervals you’ve set. For example, if you’re running a welcome campaign for new subscribers, you can set the Drip Action to send a welcome email immediately, followed by a product introduction three days later, and a special offer one week after that.

Setting Up Trigger Workflows:

  1. Trigger Creation: Set triggers for specific actions (e.g., new lead capture or appointment booking).

  2. Define Actions: Automate email or SMS notifications for each event.

  3. Customization: Personalize messages for leads, clients, and internal notifications.

  4. Workflow Automation: Use the automation builder to create seamless sequences of communication.

Use Cases:

  1. New Lead Notification: Instantly notify sales teams or clients about new leads.

  2. Appointment Reminders: Automate SMS reminders for scheduled appointments.

  3. Internal Updates: Notify yourself or team members when leads or tasks are updated.

Here are 3 fresh tips to help you protect against fraud this holiday shopping season:

Fraud prevention doesn’t have to rely solely on external tools or third-party solutions. As an independent retailer, you can take proactive steps in-house to safeguard your business and protect your customers from fraud this holiday season. Here are some innovative strategies you can implement on your own to stay ahead of potential threats:

1. Use Visual Conrmation for ID and Payment Methods

When verifying a customer’s ID and payment, go beyond a simple glance. Take a moment to compare the person’s physical appearance with the photo on the ID and confirm that the name matches the credit card or payment method being used.

Pro Tip: If you’re processing in-store credit card transactions, ask customers to sign the receipt even if it’s not required. Comparing their signature to the one on the back of their card adds another layer of verication.

This attention to detail not only helps catch fraud but also signals to customers that your store takes security seriously.

2. Monitor Employee Activity During Peak Hours

The holiday season can get chaotic, which can lead to lapses in oversight. Fraudsters often exploit this by creating distractions to slip through fraudulent activity.

How It Works:

  • Rotate responsibilities during peak hours to ensure no single employee handles all high-value transactions or sensitive tasks.

  • Assign a manager or senior staff member to oversee busy periods and provide additional support.

  • Watch for unusual employee behavior, such as reluctance to follow verication procedures or excessive interest in certain transactions.

Maintaining awareness during busy times can help prevent fraud while keeping operations running smoothly.

3. Limit the Use of Store Wi-Fi for Customers

Public Wi-Fi can be a vulnerability, especially if fraudsters are attempting to intercept customer information or access your internal systems.

What to Do:

  • If you offer free Wi-Fi, ensure it is on a separate network from your store’s internal systems.

  • Post clear signage that warns customers to avoid entering sensitive information, such as passwords or payment details, when using public Wi-Fi.

  • This small adjustment minimizes the risk of data breaches originating from your own network.

By staying proactive and implementing these fraud prevention strategies, retailers can minimize risks while focusing on providing a seamless shopping experience for their customers this holiday season.
